The Tap Room
It was always the intention to have a Craft Beer venue one day rather than solely being a “production brewery”. We knew that if we really wanted to get our beer out into the local area, we needed our own venue. It was a regular question at the festivals, “Do you have a bar?".
4 years ago we started the journey in earnest, although slowed down by Covid, we began looking at venues all over the Peel Region. Existing pubs, restaurants & industrial units in and around Mandurah were in our sights. We particularly liked the industrial unit idea because it fitted well with our brand, and the fact that this was to be a working brewery as well.
It was the beginning of 2022 that we found our unit in Galbraith Loop after having had a rollercoaster of a journey with other properties – we found some, we lost some! The more we looked at Galbraith – the more we liked it, there was no other bar within 3km in any direction so we knew we would get plenty of walk-in local custom, this fitted in with our ethos of providing a service for the local community. Eventually we took the lease on in November.
Building work commenced the following Easter, and we started to understand the concept of 'Rome not being built in a day!'. We had a local designer help us with our warm - industrial design. We wanted to embrace rather than cover the identity of the venue, but still have a warm welcoming feel – this has been assisted using WA hard wood bars and furniture, against steel, glass & recycled brick. We did the internal demolition ourselves and, we are proud to say, all the trade work was done by locals.
All along we knew we needed someone to run our front of house, Pete (Macca – Director & Head Brewer) and I can make a bloody awesome beer and poured a few beers at festivals etc. But having a full bar and kitchen was a major step up for us.
In a happy coincidence, Dale our Hospo Manager, who had been consulting during the development for some time, became available. We managed to intercept him on his way to Margaret River, one look was all it took, as they say - and he was in!
His wealth of experience has steered us towards the resulting Tap Room of which we are all extremely proud. He has gathered a team of experience and youth around him including our Head Chef Rhys Hura who were all chosen specifically to deliver our guests fantastic food and beverage experiences.
Combining that MO with our stable of quality beers, local wines and spirits, and an inclusive and relaxed atmosphere, we are confident everyone will enjoy their “Wedgetail” experience here at the Tap Room.
